Thursday 1st December
Bryony and her team have now officially started on their expedition to the South Pole. Having landed at the Antarctic base amongst strong winds of 35 knots, and enjoyed a final breakfast within the safety of the base, Bryony and the team headed out to the Hercules Inlet, half a day ahead of schedule.
The team is already making good progress, skiing over 13km with full ‘pulks’ and avoiding the numerous crevasses that came up along the route on the first day. Byrony has commented that pulling the ‘pulks,’ is actually a lot easier than the tyres she used to train with.
The expedition, as well as being part of a world record attempt for Bryony to become the youngest Briton to ski to the South Pole from the Hercules Inlet, also aims to raise money for two charities, which are close to Bryony’s heart. Mountain Rescue England and Wales, and the Calvert Trust are two charities which enable people of all ages and backgrounds to have access to the outdoors.
